1 out of 4 (CPU’s) ain’t bad: With it being summer and the air condition on (and everyone being all up in everyone else’s grill ‘bout the environment) I have decide to turn off all but one of my processors in hopes of saving a few coins on the hydro bill. I used to do this back in OS X 10.4 but CPU management seemed a bit buggy and I had more than a few K-panics which put an end to the practice. It all seems a great deal smoother in OS X 10.5 and so far I can report that, with the exception of video compression, it would really seam as though 4 cores and a Mac Pro are really wasted on a web designer. Apart from getting a little chuggy with Adobe AI and PS running things have been running very smooth. I might run this way all year. Uploaded with plasq’s Skitch

FlipSide5 games are now available for purchase: At long last and with great anticipation, the Apple App store is now a reality. And it’s that reality that has me excited to finally see the FlipSide5 games finally available for the public to purchase. It’s not that I had never believed it would happen, it’s just that as a web designer, I felt cheap by building a site for things that didn’t really exist until now. Now it’s official; you can click the button and the iTunes app is launched and you are taken right into the Apple app store. It’s a pretty neat feeling, being part (a small part) of something this big. So of course there are a few changes to the site, most notably the refreshed graphics that now show the iPhone 3G. But there are now some new products on the site too; Touch Tennis and Touch Hockey. Apart from their banner graphics I had nothing at all to do with the artwork on these (was already made available to me). I wish FlipSide5 all the success they deserve. Uploaded with plasq’s Skitch

FlipSide5 4InARow Touch on page one: Oh yeah! How cool is that? My artwork can be seen on page one of the “All iPhone APLICATIONS” page of the Apple App store in the new iTunes. Let that be a lesson in naming schemes, lol, always start your product names with a number. :) It is seriously an honor to have worked with FlipSide5 through all of this. The data contained on two CD’s has been mailed priority post to the other side of the country where I hope the results will be enjoyed for many years to come. Turkish Delight: I have been working for a few hours going through the fruits of a recent Turkish wedding I had the honor of shooting. What took my breath away more than any other aspect of this wedding was the beautiful, ornate dresses worn by many of the Turkish women. All of them with stunning patterns and lavish colors. As you can see, this young beauty stood out with what I can only describe as nearly the most beautiful dress I have ever seen, second only to that of the bride. Uploaded with plasq’s Skitch

OMG this hurts!: I went camping at Pinehurst Lake and all I got were these stinking bug bites! LOL, man am I allergic to mosquito bites or what? And this is WITH bug spray! Each and everyone of the bites on my feet turned into a blister, and three of them got nearly as bad as the the gruesome monster under my ankle. Thankfully I work from home so wearing shoes is not an issue. Wow am I ever itchy though. I REALLY wish I could scratch these! Uploaded with plasq’s Skitch

Demonstrating the power of Scott Kelby’s techniques: A twitter peep of mine, and fellow Kitchener-Waterloo photographer was kind enough share her untouched photos with me. Lisa has quite the eye for composition (especially this one, WOW!). Anyhow, we got talking about photo retouching (which she had not yet had the opportunity to to this batch), and I had brought up Scott Kelby’s 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3. So better than trying to explain it, I thought a nifty little demonstration would be cool. So I took one of Lisa’s pretty little roses (as seen untouched here) and performed a few of Scott’s steps just to make it pop a little and bring it to life. Now this is only from a screen shot of the image in her photostream so there weren’t as many dynamics to work with as there would have been with the original image but I think the point is well illustrated. I ought to do this more often: It’s one of those less-than-sexy jobs you often forget about; emptying the trash. Heck, some of us even use the trash as another place to sort and store things, like a, “I’m not quite done with you” bin. This morning was my time to do this, empty the trash, and it seems that it has been awhile. By the time I was done writing this post, OS X had been chugging away at deleting the 3000+ files for 13 minutes and was only a 1/4 of the way done. So maybe I ought to make this a daily task. moo cards round 2: So uhh… yeah. I liked the last batch but there were a few things on the text side I didn’t like and then I felt that the old ones didn’t pop enough. Seeing as I now knew the exact dimensions I had to work with I set out to make a new batch. Yeah, a little more traditional, I know, but it’s an awkward format to work with. A delicious word cloud: I spied this one off of the admartinator’s flickr feed, “Wordle - Beautiful Word, a site that will take a bunch of words (or del.icio.us tags in my case) and turn them into a really cool word cloud. kicking it in the shade: Here is my oldest child, back in town for the summer, enjoying summer vacation the only way a kid should; kicking it in the shade with a cool drink, doing nothing particularly important but being totally absorbed in it all the same. Rogers Wireless Home Page: Umm… yeah we know already… did you miss the news conference? It’s like… nearly 24 hours AFTER the fact and you are still covered in a shroud of mystery? Sheesh, no wonder you tell me two years after the fact that my current plan was made obsolete two years ago, you are just THAT clueless. Apple Store (Canada) - iPhone 3G: A 3G iPhone in Canada for $199 AND Rogers new and improved data plans? Oh yeah, I see an iPhone in MY future. This is pretty cool since I am so involved with iPhone software developers and the most I can do to simulate the experience is to use the iPhone Simulator app in the iPhone developers SDK. Do I need this phone? Not really, but for $199 I can really say no to be honest.

Apple Canada - iPhone: Here it is ladies and gentleman, it is 1005 official, the iPhone is in Canada and is on the Apple Canada website. It has been long awaited for us Canadian folk who felt a little ripped off considering the gap between Canada and the United States is a mere few meters. I can say nothing more that hooray for the iPhone coming to Canada.

The Daily Slurp: I love so many showcase sites, but none more than The Daily Slurp. You can’t submit to the slurp (or not so that anyone is really paying attention), the slurp just happens to you. And that is exactly the case with FlipSide5, which got Slurped on June 4th.

your moo minicards are inside: Ohh… shiny… new… cards… mmmm! So I thought I’d better order myself a new batch of cards to go with the new seyDoggy 2008 website, something more in-line with the site itself. I decided to go with moo (they love to print) as they are cheap enough that if I didn’t like the concept, I could afford scrap the whole lot. You’ll notice the impulse purchase, the card holder that moo now offers, which is equally shiny and new, and I must admit, VERY handy. I haven’t yet found room in my pocket to actually use it as a key chain, but I working on it.
